Students in Mrs. Luperini and Mrs. Goldenberg’s 2nd grade classes recently finished the “Learn Not to Burn” program through the Forest Park Fire Department. Firefighter Phil came to their classrooms on three occasions to teach the students about fire safety and work on a fire safety activity book with them. For the culminating activity other firemen came along and also brought the fire safety trailer, an ambulance and a fire engine. Students recalled things they learned in class as they looked for fire hazards in the the safety trailer. Then they practiced escaping from a burning home and calling 911. They were also able to explore the inside of an ambulance and ask questions about it as well as check out a fire engine up close. The second graders always love this program!
