Stacie Pelletier, Garfield’s Early Childhood teacher has been taking her students on trips every Friday since January using funds from an Illinois Education Association (IEA) grant. She wrote the grant at the beginning of this school year and was one of only 70 teachers in the state who was awarded funds. She and her students have been going on trips to places that fit into their units of study. They have been to places such as the Morton Arboretum, The Museum of Science and Industry, The Selfish Giant Play and Oak Park Conservatory. They have also gone on community trips so her students could do common things that are often taken for granted such as going to restaurants, movies, ice skating, a bank and a local park. Ms. Pelletier is very happy with what the trips have done for her students and their families.
