A semi-tractor truck carrying a load of mail to the U.S. Postal Service’s Bulk Mail Center in Forest Park had its trailer suddenly collapse while turning from the eastbound exit ramp of the Eisenhower Expressway onto Desplaines Avenue on Friday afternoon, snarling traffic.

The Desplaines Avenue exit ramp is closed to traffic and police are on the scene while waiting for the trailer’s cargo of mail to be off-loaded onto another semi, which sits on the exit ramp.

According to the driver of the truck, everything was going smoothly until he made the turn onto Desplaines Avenue. The cargo shifted toward the middle of the trailer and the bottom simply collapsed, partially lifting the wheels of the trailer off the ground.

The driver works for a company by the name of B&T Mail Service in New Berlin, Wisconsin.
