Ms. Benacka is a kindergarten teacher who has been at Betsy Ross for 5 years, in both kindergarten and first grade. As she is completing a Masters degree in Reading, she knows the importance of incorporating read alouds into every subject. Ms. Benacka reads quality literature, poetry, chants, and letters to her students on a daily basis.
Why read aloud? It exposes children to concepts of print, letter-sound connections, reading strategies, content information, rhyme, fluent reading, and much, much more. But the most important reason? Reading aloud to children encourages a love of reading, which provides them with the best motivation to learn to read and enjoy books themselves!
