Resident thwarts bike theft, police nab suspect
On Sept. 2 around 5 p.m., a Maywood man was charged with one count of criminal trespassing after attempting to steal a bicycle from the backyard of a house on the 1100 block of Ferdinand. Seeing the theft in progress, a resident confronted the 21-year-old man, who dropped the bike and fled on foot into the alleyway. Responding officers apprehended the suspect a short time later near the intersection of Lathrop and Desplaines avenues.
Possession of drug equipment
An Oak Park man has been charged with one count of possession of drug equipment after a police officer spotted him using a glass pipe to smoke marijuana in the outdoor area of a bar located on the 7500 block of Madison Street, Sept. 1 around 9:30 p.m. At the time, the officer was conducting a routine premise check.
A Lockport woman has been charged with one count of possession of drug equipment after her 2003 Chrysler Town and Country was stopped on Sept. 2 around 7 p.m. for failing to obey a stop sign near Harlem Avenue and I-290. The 27-year-old woman agreed to a search and officers found a glass pipe and a hypodermic syringe.
Resisting arrest
A Bellwood man has been charged with one count of resisting arrest after officers stopped his 1995 Chevrolet Caprice while he was traveling southbound on Harlem Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 1. A registration check revealed the 23-year-old man had prior arrests for unlawful use of a weapon. Officers asked the man to get out of his car, but he repeatedly refused, even forcibly slamming the driver-side door shut after officers opened it. The man was eventually taken into custody.
Possession of a controlled substance
Genaro Martinez has been charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance and one felony count of driving without a license. The Carol Stream man was stopped while driving his 2014 Dodge Magnum on Sept. 3 around 11 a.m. Martinez failed to provide a valid driver’s license or his real name when officers asked the 35-year-old man for information. A search of his car revealed 3.4 grams of cocaine, valued at over $100, as well as several hundred dollars in cash. Felony charges were approved after it was revealed Martinez has four previous DUI convictions.
Two men, Drew Fickau and David Hedtcke, have each been charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance. On Sept. 1 around 6:30 p.m., officers stopped Hedtcke’s 2006 GMC Sierra while the pair traveled northbound near the 1000 block of Harlem Avenue. After seeing a hypodermic needle on the floor of the car, officers searched the two men and found about 12 grams of heroin.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Aug. 31-Sept. 4, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
