Garfield’s PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is off to a great start again this year!  Paws are being handed out everyday for students being respectful, responsible and safe.  As a result, the students have reached the first goal line and earned an extra recess.  The teachers have finished reading their first PBIS book of the month and are working on the second one.  The PBIS team provides classroom teachers with a new book to read aloud to their class each month.  The book is read once a week during that month.  For each book, the PBIS team pulls out two ideas, or “Buzzes of the Week” to reinforce the three B’s.  The “Buzz of the Week” lasts for two weeks.  Students are reminded what the “Buzz of the Week” is each day during the morning announcements.

The first PBIS book of the month was Cookies: Bite Size Life Lessons by Amy Krouse Rosenthal.  After hearing the book, students were asked to respond to it by drawing a picture and writing a sentence about it.  A couple of the student responses accompany this article.

PBIS has also held its first photobooth session of the year.  Students who stayed on blue for the month of September were invited to put on some fun props and take their picture with Ms. Stauder.  A few pictures from the photobooth are also included.
