For six years we have been raising money for injured heroes returned from war. Every fall we hold a tournament and fundraiser, and we are always grateful for the support the community shows. This year’s ceremony featured the Schurz JROTC Drum Corps, the Proviso East JROTC Color Guard, the Forest Park Honor Guard, and Boy Scout Troop 107 honoring Forest Park’s VFW and American Legion by presenting their colors. The pageantry these groups provide really adds to a beautiful afternoon.
We were lucky enough to honor some great veterans who were in attendance: Kyle DeRosier, Neil Scarpelli, Paul Frauenfleder, Kevin Connelly, John Velinski, Daniel Foot, Jay Donavon, Eugene Scheuring and David Fabiani.
Big thanks to the people and businesses who step up every year: Julie Thompson, Sandra Polinski, Kathleen Ryan, Irene Weik, Tiffany Budoff, the band AM/FM for playing all afternoon, R Place, Angelo O’Leary’s, FatDuck Tavern, Chalk Craft Beerhouse, Forest Park Kiwanis, Mohr Oil, MSS, Currie Motors, Hawk Jeep, McGaffer’s, Kasey/Jennifer & Amelias, Tim Hogan & VFW Post 7181, Karen Dylewski, and Larry Piekarz, Steve Thomas and the entire Forest Park Park District board and staff who have supported this event for years.
