This week, the district  ELL students in 2nd-8th grades went to the National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilsen. Students learned about the cultural traditions of The Day of the Dead, the Latin American holiday which honors the lives of those who have passed.   The exhibition included 13 ofrendas and 116 art pieces from more than 90 artists from the U.S. and Mexico.  These paintings, sculptures, and folk art comprise the largest annual exhibition of Day of the Dead in the U.S. The students, who come from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds that span the globe, enjoyed the art and learning about the holiday. The second graders from Betsy Ross came back with huge smiles and a great deal to tell their teachers about The Day of the Dead!
