Field-Stevenson and District 91 participated in an “Hour of Code” this week along with thousand of  teachers worldwide who encouraged students to try out computer programming.  Using Code.org website, students were able to choose from various themes (Frozen, Minecraft, Angy Birds, Star Wars) to program blocks of code or JavaScript blocks.  Anyone can access the lessons to develop their core knowledge of programming.

3rd grade Challenge students talked with Mr.Grindeanu, a Software Development Specialist at Argonne.  Mr. Grindeanu explained some of the capabilities of Mira, a supercomputer used for solving some of the world’s most critical data-intensive math and science problems.

Why code?  Coding is quickly becoming an essential skill just like reading, writing, and math.  Learning to code can open up countless opportunities for our students in the future.
