As first grade continues their study of Arctic animals, Mrs. O’Connell’s class found out just how hard live in the Arctic can be. They became the animals, and had to find food to survive. The problem was: the food was frozen in solid ice and snow. They had to get their fruit out of the ice (ice cubes), then they studied it with their five senses. Through this experience, as well as the rest of the unit, they have begun using robust vocabulary, such as dormant, hibernate, burrow, adapt, and migrate.
