On Thursday, the second graders at Betsy Ross traveled to Field Stevenson to watch the 3rd grade musical performance. This was not only a chance for them to see a great show, but an opportunity to see the school that they will attend next year. Music teacher Mrs. Binder worked with the 2nd and 3rd grade teacher to organize the event, which included the performance, as well as a question and answer period, and a tour of the school. Ms. Skelton’s art club helped out with decorations and a paper bouquet for their favorite music teacher.

The second graders were very impressed with the performance, which included singing, dancing, and multiple instruments, all helping to tell the story of Miss Maple’s Seeds, by Eliza Wheeler. The third grade students read the book with Mrs. Binder, and were able to cite textual evidence to make decisions about the direction of the musical, such as the tempo of the music for specific sections. Several readers helped read the text between songs. The second grade students, teachers, and parents who attended were all very impressed with their work.
