Quarter 3 – Ashley Kern

Position: Special Education Teacher

Years of Service: Ashley has been a special education teacher for seven years, on year in high school and six years in the intermediate grades.

Education: Ashley earned her bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Western Michigan University. She also recently obtained a graduate degree from Dominican University as a Reading Specialist and Literacy Coach.

Special interests: In her spare time she loves to read, spend time with her family, workout and play with her dog Lucy.

Reason for being spotlighted: “The prodigious Ashley Kern!” Ashley approaches her job with enthusiasm and a genuine passion for teaching! She is very patient and shows great compassion for students. She is always a student advocate and approaches problem solving with their best interest at heart. She has a thorough knowledge of interventions and pedagogy and is willing to assist and lend a hand to anyone who asks. She is truly an asset to our school and has made an already outstanding faculty and staff even better! A quote from one of her students was, “Thank you Ms. Kern for teaching me how to read, now I can read my math” accompanied by a big hug!!!
