And the winner is . . .
Well it depends which results are viewed.
Garfield students have had opportunities throughout the year to hear a number of the 2016 Monarch Nominee titles (https://www.islma.org/monarch.htm) from Mrs. Compere during their library classes and Miss Bruzzini during their art classes. Miss Bruzzini followed her read alouds up with art projects that went with the books she read.
A couple of weeks ago, Garfield students took part in a voting exercise during library class to choose what they thought was the best Monarch Nominee title. Mrs. Compere then tallied Garfield’s votes and sent them off to the Monarch Committee who added our students’ votes to the thousands of others from across the state.
Garfield’s Results were:
1st place – The Dark by Lemony Snicket
2nd place – Breaking News Bear Alert by David Biedrzycki
3rd place – Lost Cat by C. Roger Mader
Monarch State Results were:
1st place – Breaking News Bear Alert by David Biedrzycki
2nd place – The Watermelon Seed by Greg Pizzoli
3rd place – Lost Cat by C. Roger Mader
It looks like our students’ opinions were not too far off from other children across the state. The students are already looking forward to reading books from next year’s Monarch Nominee list. A big thanks to Mrs. Compere and Miss Bruzzini for including these titles in their lessons.
