J&J Nails & Spa recently opened a second location in Forest Park, but this newcomer to town is no newcomer when it comes to the science and art of nail care. Owner Jay Dang has been working in the business for over fifteen years, and his expertise and education make him stand apart from other nail salons.
Dang trained as biochemical engineer in Vietnam and worked in the sterilization department of a hospital prior to joining Chicago’s Mario Tricoci Salon has a nail technician. He brings his adherence to strict cleaning procedures to his own salon. “I’m very careful with keeping the tools we use sterile. Nail care is non-invasive, but you want to make sure you choose a salon that has measures in place to keep the tools very clean.”
After his time at the salon, Dang taught at beauty colleges, developing an expertise in treating nail irregularities. He later opened a salon in Chicago where he worked hard to train his employees in his techniques. Through his years of teaching and training, Dang developed methods for preventing and treating many common foot problems.
“People who are elderly or having issues with their toes might need some special services beyond a standard pedicure. Ingrown toenails are a problem for many people, and this can even be hereditary. The older you get, the stronger your nails grow, and fungus can develop as well. People may need to seek out professional treatment.”
Dang trained his long-term employees, including his wife Jenny, in the techniques needed to addresses problems with nails and in techniques to avoid problems in the future. “I’d rather prevent problems than have to treat them down the road.”
Dang offers free screenings to customers who think they may have an issue with their nails that need addressing. After a complimentary scanning, he can prescribe a course of treatment. J&J Nails & Spa also offers traditional salon services, from manicures and pedicures to waxing treatments.
No matter the service, Dang strives to create a relaxing atmosphere for his clients. Whether a client comes in seeking a no-chip manicure or treatment for a toenail problem, he realizes that everyone wants a trip to the spa to be soothing.
