The Forest Park Rotary Club will hold its inaugural charity dodgeball tournament on Saturday, Aug. 13, on the Park District of Forest Park soccer fields, 7501 Harrison St.

Rotarian and Village Commissioner Tom Mannix was not evasive. “It’s coming together,” he said, with 10 teams registered as of July 11. Organizers are hoping for 32 teams, he added, which would be “absolutely spectacular for the first year.”

Competition in the double-elimination tournament will be divided into two categories, overhand and underhand.

As a charity event, each team must designate a 501c3 charity when registering. Donations will be made to the charities of the first- and second-place teams in each division as well as teams in special categories, including best costume/theme, best team cheering section and team “A” for effort. Mannix said the tournament is not a fundraiser for the Rotary but to “get money out to the community.”

First place teams in each division will receive a trophy and T-shirts.

The registration deadline is Saturday, July 30. No day-of event signups or payments will be accepted.

The nonrefundable entry fee is $100 per team. Rosters may contain up to nine players, with six players on the field for each game.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m. on Aug. 13 with the first game at 11 a.m. Those under 18 will need a parent or guardian to sign their waiver.

Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Mannix said Rotary is looking for sponsors and praised the park district for their “phenomenal” assistance.
