Movie in the Park

 Park District of Forest Park shows their last Movie in the Park of the summer, Stars Wars: The Force Awakens on Friday, Aug. 19 on the front lawn. Make it a family night … grab a blanket and some snacks (concessions available for purchase) and enjoy a “night out” at the movies. Film begins at dusk, between 7:45 and 8:30 p.m.

Train wreck!

The Forest Park Public Library Explores 100 series continues with the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus Train Tragedy on Wednesday, Aug. 17 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Library’s Austin Room. Join local author, historian, and Forest Park Review columnist John Rice for an examination of the June 22, 1918 tragedy and its Forest Park connection. Registration required. U.S. Rep. Danny K. Davis (D-7th) has scheduled town meetings in Forest Park and River Forest in August to discuss a wide range of issues in the district. Topics of discussion include the Affordable Care Act; jobs and the economy; education; health; flooding; child welfare; and foreign affairs. The Forest Park meeting will be held on Aug. 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Park District of Forest Park, 7501 W. Harrison St. The River Forest meeting will be held on Aug. 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. at River Forest Village Hall, 400 Park Avenue.

Monthly open mic

Thursday, Aug. 18 from 7 to 10 p.m. Counter Coffee, 7324 Madison St. Piano accompanist, Mark Burnell, coordinates the evening and plays any music you bring. When you arrive, give Mark your name and he’ll add you to the performance list. Each performer sings one song at a time. We usually make it through the list several times, so if you stay and enjoy the other singers, you will get a chance to sing a few times.
