Woman slapped in attempted robbery
Police responded to a report of a robbery at 11:37 p.m., Aug. 17, in the area of Jackson and Marengo. Upon arrival, police were told that the Forest Park resident had left Thornton’s gas station and was walking back to her home when she heard bushes rustling at Jackson and Marengo. She told police she was approached by two men and one of them slapped her in the face and said “Give me your money.” He then reached into her shirt and grabbed her body. The two men then ran off without taking any money from the woman.
Liquor stolen
A large amount of liquor was reported stolen at 12:19 p.m., Aug. 18, from a business in the 7200 block of Circle Avenue. Police were told two men entered the business and placed liquor bottles in a backpack before leaving the store without paying. In the 200 block of Harlem Avenue, police located the vehicle the two men left in. They recovered a black backpack containing 11 bottles of liquor and both men were arrested. A 23-year-old Chicago man was charged with driving on a suspended or revoked license and Romerio R.D. Morgan, 29, of Chicago was charged with felony retail theft. Police said the value of the liquor was more than $390.
Home reported burglarized
A residential home was reported burglarized at 5:52 p.m., Aug. 21, in the 900 block of Harlem Avenue. The homeowners returned home from a trip and found lights on in the house and drawers opened in various rooms. A jar of change, a metal cash/lock box and costume jewelry were reported stolen. Evidence of a break in was also reported.
Felony retail theft at Walmart
Travis H.Q. Morris, 18, of Chicago was charged after police responded to a report of retail theft at 9:27 p.m., Aug. 19, at Walmart in Forest Park. Morris went into the store and selected items off the shelves and then returned the items in exchange for $231 in cash and a gift card worth $95. He was stopped by store security before leaving Walmart and held for police. Morris was charged with a felony count of retail theft.
DUI
Jose S. Carreno-Cruz, 36, of Palatine was charged with driving under the influence after a traffic stop at 5:46 a.m., Aug. 21, in the area of Harlem Avenue and Interstate 290. Carreno-Cruz was also charged with driving without insurance and issued tickets for three moving violations. Police said Carreno-Cruz refused testing to determine blood alcohol content.
Vehicle burglaries
A 2014 Chrysler Town and Country was reported burglarized at 6:38 a.m., Aug. 17, in the 800 block of Hannah Avenue. The vehicle’s owner noticed a stale cigarette smell inside the van and the glove box disturbed. Stolen were a $70 gift card, a phone charger and Fit Disk. The Fit Disk was later found in the alley behind the residence. Police said the vehicle was unlocked.
A 2015 Subaru was reported burglarized at 11:06 a.m., Aug. 17, in the 1000 block of Lathrop Avenue. The interior of the vehicle was discovered rummaged through and a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses worth $150 was reported missing. There were no signs of forced entry.
A 2011 Chevrolet was reported burglarized at 1:20 p.m., Aug. 17, in the 800 block of Elgin. The vehicle was discovered rummaged through and power cords, a football, a set of headphones and a Playstation game system were reported missing.
A 2016 Jeep was reported burglarized at 1:59 p.m., Aug. 17, in the 900 block of Marengo Avenue. The vehicle was ransacked and an MCM wallet, worth $500, was reported missing. The wallet contained identification, credit cards and $200 in cash.
A 2001 Honda Civic was reported burglarized at 3:52 p.m., Aug. 17, in the 1000 block of Thomas Avenue. The vehicle was found rummaged through with the glove box and center console open. Nothing was found missing. The owner was not sure they locked the vehicle prior to the break-in.
A 2008 Saturn was reported burglarized at 8:44 a.m., Aug. 19, in the 1000 block of Dunlop. The vehicle’s owner found the door to the vehicle slightly open and the interior ransacked. About $8 and a black knife were reported missing from the vehicle. The vehicle had been left unlocked.
A 2006 Chevrolet Express was reported burglarized at 9:23 a.m., Aug. 19, in the first block of Harlem Avenue. The vehicle’s locking mechanism was broken when the burglar attempted to enter the vehicle, but could not.
A 2002 Nissan Maxima was reported burglarized at 10:04 a.m., Aug. 19, in the 500 block of Ferdinand. The doors and trunk of the vehicle were nearly closed, but slightly ajar when the person who made the report discovered the burglary. The owner was out of town and it was unknown if anything was stolen.
A 2013 Subaru Impreza was reported burglarized at 6:04 p.m., Aug. 19, while it was parked in a lot at Hannah and Madison. A pair of glasses worth $15 was stolen. The vehicle was left unlocked.
Bike stolen
A bicycle was reported stolen from a backyard at 10:28 a.m., Aug. 19, in the 100 block of Elgin Avenue. The value of the bike was $100.
Open liquor citations issued
Three men were independently issued citations just after midnight for having open bottles of beer outside a bar in the 7400 block of Madison Street. In each case, the men said they simply forgot they were carrying the bottles when they stepped outside the bar for various reasons.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Aug. 15-21, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
