Fifth grade just returned from their yearly trip to Covenant Harbor in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Mrs. Malarski and Mrs. Giblin, accompanied by four parent chaperones, embarked on the trip with the fifth grade class from Wednesday, September 28 to Friday, September 30.
The goal of the trip is to instill problem solving and team building strategies for fifth grade students. Upon arrival, students have an orientation and unpack their belongings. They begin with cooperative games, canoeing, and thicket (a hide and seek game in the woods). Each night, students write letters home and end with a campfire. The first night, students went on a night hike, as well. Students learn skills such as outdoor cooking and archery, along with fun physical activity like ropes courses.
This year was special for Mrs. Malarski, as it is her 12th and last time attending Covenant Harbor. She will be retiring at the end of the year, and she will pass the tradition on. She celebrated by going on the zip line with Mrs. Giblin, who is also retiring this year.
