In recent weeks, ELL teacher, Mrs. Torres has been teaching students at Garfield about Diwali. Diwali is the start of the Hindu New Year. It is celebrated in autumn during a new moon. People often light lamps and candles to celebrate it. As a result, Diwali is also called the Festival of Lights. Diwali spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. A few of our students celebrate Diwali and wore native dress to show their classmates how it looks.
