For our kindergarten students, the best learning comes from meaningful, fun activities. Young children learn much more from play and excitement than they can from a book. Ms. Volpe uses a mixture of traditional and game based strategies to teach important math concepts, like sorting and comparing numbers. Today, her students used what they have been learning this week to sort skittles numerous ways, and compare the number of objects in two groups, using the terms more and less. The students loved the activity, which was done in small groups. Of course, their favorite part was eating their groups at the end!
