Last week, all students at Field-Stevenson participated in Hour of Code, an event geared to broaden participation in the field of computer science. For some, this is their first experience coding and the excitement in the classroom tells us it most likely will not be their last.  Many students used the Hour of Code website and coded everything from Disney characters and Minecraft games.

Challenge Program 3rd graders had the opportunity to meet Vivak Patel, a programmer from Argonne, who discussed the type of work he does.   The students had many interesting and thoughtful questions for him about building “artifical intelligence.”  Computer science has an impact on every industry and even though the demand is growing at a rate double the national average, there are not enough computer science students to fill the expected jobs.
