Florence Minnie Martha Wenzlaff (nee Schult), 94, former Forest Park resident, died on June 7, 2017 in El Paso, Texas after a week in hospice care.
Born on Feb. 27, 1923 in Chicago, she moved to Forest Park in 1925. Here she grew-up and lived much of her adult life in the family home on Circle Avenue. She graduated from St. John Lutheran Grade School and was a member of the Proviso East High School Class of 1941.
On Sept. 27 of that year, she married Helmut and much of the couple’s later social life centered on what was then a very lively Forest Park VFW Post. She held membership in the VFW Auxiliary until her death. Ms. Wenzlaff was also a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church.
Ms. Wenzlaff is survived by her children, Glen Robert (Patti) Wenzlaff, Cindy Kay (Michael) Saelinger and Gary H. (Brigitte) Wenzlaff; her nieces, Carole (James) Morris and Gloria (George) Mezera; her nephew, Vernon “Bud” Holpuch Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews in Illinois, Florida and Texas related to her through marriage; and eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Helmut Paul Wenzlaff; her sons, Paul Raymond Wenzlaff, Bruce Richard (Kathy, Judith) Wenzlaff and John Curtis (Karen) Wenzlaff; and her parents, John William Schult and Wilhelmine Juliane Schult (nee Jeske). She is intensely missed by the many who loved her.
