Game of Thrones Pub Crawl

Echo Theater Collective will host a Games of Thrones-themed “Hold the Door” pub crawl fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 14 from noon to 10 p.m. in Forest Park.

Assemble a team, pick up a house name and motto and compete in challenges as you bar-hop your way across Forest Park in your quest to sit on the Iron Throne.

Pancake breakfast 

Bring your appetite and help out the Cub Scout Pack 109 and the Forest Park Firefighters Union by stopping by their Pancake Breakfast at the Forest Park Fire Station, 517 Desplaines Ave., on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Get a full breakfast for just $5. Proceeds will benefit the union and Pack 109.

Support local authors 

Book lovers, head over to Centuries and Sleuths Bookstore, 7419 Madison St., on Sunday, Oct. 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. and meet the Hometown Reads’ New Breed of Chicagoland Authors.

Ten writers, who are part of the Hometown Reads Local Author program, and who have authored books from many genres, from mysteries to history to romance, will be on hand to talk about their work and sell their books.

Get that blood sugar checked

Rush Oak Park Hospital hosts a Diabetes Fair on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Park District of Forest Park, 7501 Harrison St. in Forest Park.

The annual event provides education, highlights local resources and provides free diabetes screenings, including blood glucose screenings and lipid profiles.

Library explores Forest Park

Forest Park Library continues its Explore Forest Park series by inviting adults to a Zumba class at Pineapple Dance Studio, 7518 Madison St., second floor. Monday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.

Make sure you wear athletic shoes and comfortable clothes that allow movement. The class is 45 minutes long and all participants must be 18 or older and sign a waiver. Arrive 10 minutes early.

Hone your Facebook skills

Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd., presents Advanced Facebooking in the Austin Room on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Learn how to customize your Facebook experience, as Mike Gershbein from the technology tutoring firm Very Smart People addresses a range of topics, including information on privacy, taming your news feed, creating groups and more.

Look for the Lions

Members of the local Lions Club will be out and about on Oct. 13 and 14 for the annual Lions Candy Days, which are a major fundraising activity for the club’s mission to help the visually and hearing impaired in Illinois.

The club is also soliciting donations to help offset the cost of the candy for the Candy Days. Please make checks payable to Lions of Illinois Foundation and mail to Austin D’Souza, 906 Dunlop Ave., Forest Park, 60130.
