Canning 101
Learn the fundamentals of canning in a hands-on demo with veteran gardener Anna Stange. Both water bath and pressure canning tips and techniques will be discussed. The group will prepare and can organic seasonal produce, which will be available for tasting at the conclusion of the program. Digitize Your Memories
Learn to convert your VHS and 8 mm video to digital movies at 3 p.m. at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd., on Jan. 25. Register online at fppl.org.

The Park District of Forest Park will hold its board meeting at 6 p.m., Jan. 25 at 7501 Harrison St.
History Discussion Meeting
Discuss historian David Halberstam’s The Coldest Winter at 2 p.m. at Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore, 7419 Madison St., on Jan. 28. Hablerstam won the Pulitzer Prize at age 30 for his work reporting on the Vietnam War. His last 14 books were all New York Times bestsellers.
Sisters in Crime Meeting
The Chicago chapter’s new president, author Patricia Skalka, will talk to the all-woman writing club’s members about paths to publication. What writing goals do you have for 2018? Bring those and let’s talk! Sisters in Crime will meet at 11a.m. at Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore, 7419 Madison St., on Jan. 27.
Band-A-Thon Fundraiser
The nonprofit Chicago Area Alternative Education League will host its 16th annual Battle of the Bands fundraiser at 5 p.m. Jan. 28 at Healy’s Westside, 7321 Madison St. Attendees’ $40 ticket includes draft beer, soda, wine, appetizers, live music, a raffle, silent auction, door prizes and more. Breaded Pork Tenderloin Fundraiser
The First United Church of Christ will host a breaded pork tenderloin dinner with music by ’50s and ’60s cover band The Affects at 5 p.m. Feb. 10 at 1000 Elgin Ave. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $8 for children aged 10 and under. Call 708-420-4413 for ticket information.
Rapunzel Visit & Interactive Movie
Watch a special interactive screening of Tangled that will include a special, real-life appearance by Rapunzel at 2 p.m. at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd., on Jan. 27. Ages 12 and under and their caregivers are welcome. Register online at fppl.org.
