Armed men steal car at park district
A man, who parked his Honda by the tennis courts at the Park District of Forest Park, 7501 Harrison St., about 5:49 p.m. on June 29, reported that two men wearing bandanas came up to him, one of whom pointed a handgun and ordered him out of the car. The two men got in the Honda and drove east on Harrison.
Asks to borrow phone, then steals it
A man out walking his dog about 3:18 p.m. on the 100 block of Marengo on July 1, reported that a man approached him and asked to use his phone. The victim dialed the number for the man and put it on speaker. The man then grabbed the Samsung S6+ and ran east, got into a blue Ford, then fled toward Harlem.
Laptop, cash taken from condo
At some point between 12:30 p.m. on June 22 and 2:45 a.m. on June 25, someone broke into a home on the 500 block of Grove Lane and took an HP computer, 10 bottles of wine, $20 cash, and a green and beige golf-themed baseball. The victim told police he believed the offender got in through the rear door of his condo. The reporting officer also noticed the back patio window was left unlocked.
Thieves break into five cars
Sometime between 7 p.m. on June 24 and 8:30 a.m. on June 25, someone broke into a Jeep parked on the 900 block of Lathrop and stole a phone charger valued at $10, an empty gun case valued at $100 and loose change.
Between 11 p.m. on June 25 and 9:15 a.m. on June 26, someone broke into a Dodge Journey parked on the 200 block of Elgin and stole a wallet, which contained $200 cash, a debit card, state ID, and insurance card; a backpack, which contained a pair of headphones and several charging cables; four baseball hats; and his work shirt, which was later found behind a nearby building.
A man pulled his Chevrolet into an alley about 9 a.m. on the 1100 block of Thomas on June 28. He briefly left the car unattended — with the windows down and car running — and returned less than five minutes later and drove to the store. It was there he discovered his wallet was missing. His wallet contained his driver’s license, $15 cash, a Discover credit card, Capital One credit card, US Bank credit card, a Menard’s credit card and a Costco credit card.
Sometime between 11 p.m. on June 27 and 1:30 a.m. on June 28, someone broke into an Infinity parked on the 400 block of Ferdinand and stole a Nintendo gaming system valued at $300 and eight games valued at $300 total. The victim told police she likely left the doors unlocked.
The papers and a briefcase belonging to a former state’s attorney were found blowing around an alley on the 1100 block of Elgin. Police called the former state’s attorney who said he remembers last seeing the items in his car about 10:30 p.m. on June 29.
Loose change stolen from condo
Between 7:30 and 10:25 a.m. on June 26, someone broke into a home on the 1000 block of Troost, stole loose change and poured water all over the front stairs. The victim said her front door frame was damaged.
BB-gun in Living Fresh Market
Police responded to a call of men carrying guns about 3:24 p.m. in the parking lot of Planet Fitness, 7530 Roosevelt Road, on June 26.
A security guard said told police he saw the two men walk into Living Fresh Market, 7520 Roosevelt. Police spotted the two men and began to handcuff them. One of the men complied and officers found multiple boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts tucked in his pants. On the other man, police found a BB gun in his waistband. He was charged with disorderly conduct.
iPhone stolen from bar top
A man told police someone stole his iPhone 6 from his table at R’ Place about 5:28 p.m. on June 29. He said he tried to confront the man at 1527 Harlem, but the man jumped on his bike and pedaled quickly into Berwyn.
Wallet stolen from library
A man’s wallet was stolen from the Forest Park Public Library about 3:48 p.m. on June 29. The victim said he arrived at the library around 9:30 a.m., and started working at a computer. He noticed it was missing around 3 p.m. His wallet contained his Pakistan ID, a residence permit, $20 cash, two debit cards and an American Express cash passport.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, June 25-July 2, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
