A Maywood man has been indicted for killing Michael Harris at 4:34 a.m. on June 10 at the intersection of Elgin Avenue and Adams Street.
A Cook County judge indicted Martell Dorsey on 42 counts, alleging he shot Harris with the intent to kill him, according to the clerk from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. Dorsey, 23, pleaded not guilty to the charges at an arraignment in Maywood on July 9. His next court appearance is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at Maybrook Courthouse on Aug. 15.
Dorsey’s bail is $250,000 and he is currently in Cook County Jail.
On June 10, police responded to multiple calls of shots fired at Elgin and Adams, according to the police report. A witness told police she heard a gunshot, looked outside and saw a man take something and then walk away from Harris, 66, of Chicago. About five minutes later, she told police the man returned, walked about 10 feet from Harris and shot him again. He then fled. Two other witnesses said they heard a gunshot, an approximate five-minute-long lapse, and then another shot.
Officers arrived at the scene and found Harris lying on the sidewalk with his eyes open and blood pooling around his head.
Forest Park, Oak Park and River Forest police searched nearby yards, until they found Dorsey, who matched the description of the subject, crouching in a crawl space on the 700 block of South Maple Avenue in Oak Park.
