Forest Park Police Sergeant Christopher Chin is a man of many talents, as evidenced by his first-place finish in the village’s annual Rib Fest on Sept. 8.

For the event, Chin and his partner chef, Juan “Smoke Artist” Silva, roasted a whole hog with slices of pineapple. The duo also offered baby back ribs with mole sauce. The two operate the family-owned Beach Avenue BBQ catering business.

“Two guys, a pig and a first place trophy!” Beach Avenue BBQ wrote on Facebook on Sept. 8. “Forest Park Rib Fest rocks!”

This isn’t the first time Beach Avenue BBQ has finished first. In September 2017, Beach Avenue’s autumn chili — which comprised smoked pork, chorizo and hominy corn, topped with avocado aioli — earned top honors at the Park District of Forest Park’s annual Chili & Beer Fest.

Beach Avenue BBQ products can often be found at the Brookfield Farmers Market, National Night Out events and more. Order online at beachavenuebbq.com. A portion of their profits benefit Chicago’s homeless population by providing clothes, meals and self-care products.

James Bowdry placed second in the 2018 Rib Fest and Harold Decuir placed third.
