Third & fourth grade Challenge Program students traveled to Fullersburg Woods on Friday, October 12th to explore birding. Armed with binoculars and images of recently spotted birds, students carefully listened to the sounds of nature as they hiked trail through the woodlands.  They were able to spot and identify many winged Salt Creek habitants — egrets, migratory birds, songbirds.  Afterwards, they arrived at the Graue Mill where a docent led the crew through the unique history of the 1883 grist mill and home.  Getting up close with history, they observed the mill gear system, listened to stories of everyday life during this time period and explored the role the mill played in the Underground Railroad.
