John Prine

Maywood native and Proviso East High School graduate John Prine, a prominent country and folk musician and songwriter, is among 14 nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2019. This is the first time Prine has been nominated, according to Wide Open Country, a music website.

The other nominees, who were announced Oct. 9, are Stevie Nicks, Def Leppard, Devo, Janet Jackson, Kraftwerk, LL Cool J, MC5, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Roxy Music, The Cure, Rufus & Chaka Khan and the Zombies, Wide Open reports.

“Ballots will be sent to 1,000 artists, historians and music industry members who will vote to determine this year’s inductees,” according to Wide Open. “Fans can also vote once per day at RockHall.com and in person at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Voting is open until Dec. 9.”

The inductees will be announced in December and inducted on March 29, 2019 at a ceremony in New York.

Prine’s first album, which was self-titled, debuted in 1971. Since then, he has become known as one of his generation’s most important songwriters.
