The Park District of Forest Park will hold its first-ever T-ball program this year, in response to Little League deciding to look outside the village borders and merge with the larger River Forest organization.

“Our staff heard about Little League and figured there’s an opportunity to start a T-ball program to help those kids learn and move on to the next level,” said Andrew Doss, athletic and facility supervisor at the park district.

The district’s seven-week program will teach kids, age 4 to 6, the basics of fielding, hitting, throwing and batting. Players will meet three days a week at the park district, with practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays and games on Saturdays.

Park district staff, Doss included, will coach the program. They can accommodate up to 70 kids. T-ball costs $100 for residents and $115 for non-residents.

Registration is open until May 21. Prospective participants can sign up online at pdofp.org or in person at the Roos Recreation Center, 7329 Harrison St.
