I strongly support all efforts by Mayor Hoskins to put an end to the practice of village employees hiring their family members. This really falls into the ‘no brainer’ category. Every village official who defended the hiring of family members in your recent article asserted that their son, daughter, brother, etc., is an excellent employee, as if that makes it ok. (Hard to imagine they’d ever say anything else.) I suspect I’m far from alone in believing that there will always be a double standard for these ‘special’ employees. As the mayor indicated, this type of favoritism erodes confidence in our government. I wonder how these folks who have turned our village government into their own personal hiring hall would feel about nepotism if they looked at this issue from a neutral, objective standpoint. Think they’d still wholeheartedly support this practice? Me neither.
