Anthony Alexander Tlahuel

A teenager who attended Proviso East High School was recently killed in an alleged hit-and-run accident that happened on June 25, according to multiple media reports.

Anthony Alexander Tlahuel, 18, of Broadview, was a pedestrian in “the wide crosswalk between Buckingham Fountain and the Lakefront Trail,” Streets Blog reports.

According to an ABC 7 report, the “incident occurred in the 500-block of South Lake Shore Drive at about 8:47 p.m. Police said a male pedestrian was hit and killed by a car traveling northbound and the car continued driving north.”

ABC 7 reported that Tlahuel was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he died. Tlahuel had been in the city to meet with siblings at Buckingham Fountain, relatives said.

Roughly 15 minutes after Tlahuel was rushed to the hospital, Chicago Police discovered a damaged Range Rover on Lower Michigan Avenue, according to ABC 7. So far, police haven’t determined whether or not the vehicle was stolen. No one was in custody as of June 26.

Tlahuel’s uncle, Adiel Daman, told ABC 7 that his nephew “was just amazing” and that “he was a kid that, he was just always happy.”

According to a WGN report, Tlahuel was a senior at East and had dreams of being a pilot.

In a Facebook post, Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson wrote that the village “is sadden[ed] by this untimely death” and urged residents to “keep the Tlahuel family in your prayers.

“If you hear or know anything that can assist in the investigation, please call the Chicago Police Department,” Thompson said.
