Forest Park resident Yasser Manzanares ran his second Chicago marathon, 26.2 miles, on Sunday, Oct. 13. He trained for and completed his first Chicago marathon in 2018.
His wife, Chantel and children Jeremiah and Rosabella Manzanares, were at the race on Sunday to cheer for Yasser.
“I like to have a goal that I can achieve,” he said. “I want to prove to myself that I can get that 26.2 miles. I can do it.” He also wants to set a good example for his children.
“My kids can look up to me,” he said. His children are 6 and 5 years old, and they have a third on the way.
When asked what he does to pass time during his long runs, he said that, since he’s deaf, he can’t listen to music or audiobooks. “I daydream,” he said. “I think about my family and the future.”
Manzanares raised $1,867 in donations for the American Cancer Foundation by running the marathon. “I am thankful to everyone who donated,” he said.
