Virginia Paeth, 98

Longtime Forest Park resident

Virginia Loraine Paeth (nee Glos), 98, a longtime Forest Park resident, died on Sept. 10, 2019 in Olympia, Washington where she had been living for the last 12 years. “Lor” as she was known to her friends, was born on Dec. 5, 1920 in Maywood and graduated from what was then Proviso High School in 1938. She was the middle of three sisters born to Martin and Florence Glos and lived in Maywood until her marriage in 1946, when she moved to Forest Park where her husband’s parents lived a few doors down from the home at 1115 Circle.

Before and during World War II, she held several jobs in Chicago and its suburbs. Her employers included the Buick division of General Motors and the Wrigley gum company. Once her children were of high school age, she returned to the workforce as a bookkeeper for restaurants, restaurant supply companies, and Forest Home Cemetery, where she worked until her retirement. She and her late husband, Orville, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1995, had been active in the Triton Garden Club, St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the VFW and VFW auxiliary for years. Later, she and Orville became active in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Oak Park. After each retired, the couple enjoyed traveling, especially to visit their children in Kentucky, Washington, and Alaska.

Virginia Paeth is survived by her children, Gregory (Beverly Derrico), Brian (Kris Ensberg) and Marilyn (Dennis O’Connell); her grandchildren, Christian, Joshua, Sawyer and Savannah Paeth and Erika Summers and Stefanie Thorsness; and her five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Westchester with church and graveside services.
