A man who implied he was armed with a gun reportedly held up Dunkin Donuts, 7660 Madison St., on Oct. 30 about 9:10 p.m.
According to the police report, the offender walked into the store about 8:45 p.m. and went in and out the door a couple of times to smoke cigarettes. The last time he came in, he walked into the bathroom and then exited carrying a gray plastic bag.
The offender approached the cash register and told the clerk, “Alright, man, I need all the money,” placing his right hand in his pocket, implying he had a gun.
The clerk took more than $100 out of the register and gave it to the offender, who put the cash inside the bag and exited the store, leaving eastbound on Madison Street.
Police described the offender as a black male, about 6-foot-3 with a thin build and medium length dreadlocks, wearing a black hoodie, a black jean jacket and black pants.
Shots fired in cemetery
Forest Park police say reports of shots fired by someone in a car inside Forest Home Cemetery, 863 Desplaines Ave., on the morning of Nov. 2 may or may not have been related to the burial the day before of a suspected gang member in that part of the cemetery.
A witness told police that an unknown male pointed a gun from inside an older “box-style” Chevy and fired several rounds at what appeared to be another vehicle.
The witness, who immediately fled the scene to the cemetery office, could not give a description of the other vehicle. Police noted that a rowdy funeral, where a suspected gang member had been laid to rest the previous day, took place in the same section of the cemetery.
Knives on the train platform
Police responded to the CTA Blue Line terminal, 711 Desplaines Ave., on Oct. 31 about 2:05 a.m. after CTA employees reported three men, one armed with a gun and another with a knife, fighting on the train platform.
A 27-year-old Chicago man, who was described as “highly intoxicated,” reportedly told police he got into an argument with the two other men in the lobby of the train station.
Police located the other two men, a 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, both of Chicago, on the platform. One of them was carrying a black pocket knife, while the other had a large, double-edged and serrated knife in his backpack. The 27-year-old also reportedly was carrying a black pocket knife. Police reported recovering a handgun-style BB gun, which no one would admit to owning but which police suspect belonged to the 27-year-old, in a nearby trash can.
Both offenders were given local ordinance citations for public fighting and disorderly conduct. The alleged victim was cited for public fighting, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
Vehicle break-ins
A resident of the 300 block of Circle Avenue went to police on the morning of Nov. 1 to report that someone had broken into his vehicle during the overnight hours. The vehicle was parked in a lot on the north side of the building. The vehicle was ransacked, but nothing appeared to be missing.
A resident of the 300 block of Elgin Avenue reported to police that someone had broken into his vehicle, which was parked in the driveway during the overnight hours of Oct. 31-Nov. 1 and removed his wallet, containing two credit cards and $1 in cash.
According to police, the stolen credit cards had subsequently been used to make about $280 in fraudulent purchases before the victim could cancel the cards.
Shot in the foot
Forest Park police responded to Rush Oak Park Hospital on Oct. 30 about 8:40 p.m. after a 35-year-old man reportedly accidentally shot himself in the foot with a handgun he was trying to unload inside his car on either Adams Street or Jackson Boulevard in Forest Park.
The man and a 35-year-old female who was driving the vehicle were southbound on Harlem Avenue approaching I-290 when she turned west on either Adams or Jackson to avoid backed-up traffic.
The woman told police the man asked her to pull over so he could unload his firearm and place it in the glove compartment. As the man was unloading the gun, he accidentally fired a round into his foot, according to the police report.
Police inspecting the vehicle in the hospital parking lot reported that there was evidence that a gun had been fired inside the car. The man reportedly had a valid Firearms Owner ID.
Police determined nothing illegal had transpired and did not charge the man with any crime.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Oct. 28-Nov. 3, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
