Chili Cook-off
Food, live music, raffles, kids’ zone, NFL playoff viewing, and lots of chili! Teens & Tweens Afterhours at the Roos
Join us for a special night just for tweens and teens! Pre-register or drop in for a night dedicated to tweens and teens. A PG or PG -13 movie will be shown, the gym will be open, and pizza, popcorn and a beverage will be served. Come hang out with friends (or make new friends) as you watch a movie, play ball, or try something new. Saturday, Jan. 11 from 8 to 10 p.m. for students in fifth through eighth grade at the Roos Recreation Center, 7329 Harrison St. $7 for residents, $10 for non-residents.
Story Times at the Library
Library story times are being held at the Howard Mohr Community Center, 7640 Jackson Blvd.
Bilingual Storytime. Wednesday, Jan. 8 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Ages 5 and under. This is a fun interactive story time with a mix of Spanish and English. Families of all languages will enjoy this event.
Merry Math Makers Storytime. Thursday, Jan. 9 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Ages 2 to 5. See the relationship between early math and literacy play out through this story time that explores early math concepts through participatory stories, hands-on activities and play.
Baby Bugs Lapsit Storytime. Tuesday, Jan 14 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. For babies and young toddlers. This story time focuses on classic rhymes and music and encourages close interaction between babies and young toddlers and their parents or caregivers. Some American Sign Language is incorporated every week.
Mother Goose Movers Toddler Storytime. Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Ages 2 to 4. A great story time for toddlers who can’t stop moving! This activity features short segments, lots of movement and music, and includes a weekly feature spotlighting rhymes and songs in Spanish, American Sign Language and other languages.
Winter Coat Drive
Little Teeth Big Smiles will be accepting donations of warm, gently used coats, sweaters, gloves and scarves for Kids Kloset through Jan. 17. Please bring items to the office at 1125 Harlem Ave. during normal business hours. Questions? Call 708-386-5437.
Speakeasy in Forest Park
Join the Forest Park Historical Society on Jan. 17 from 7 to 10 p.m. for a look back on Forest Park in the Prohibition era in the side room of O’Sullivans, 7244 Madison Street.
