Sacred Meditative Wanderings
Sacred Meditative Wanderings takes place on Saturday, Feb. 1 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Thatcher Woods (North entrance to the Pavilion), 8030 Chicago Ave., River Forest, IL. Explore earth-based concepts along with sitting and walking meditation. According to the traditional story, the future Buddha was born in a forest grove, left home to practice in nature, awakened under a tree, lived and taught in nature, and passed away in nature. Join us as we explore earth-based concepts as well as meditation and mindfulness practices out in nature where it all started. There will be silence and discussion. Paint with Steve the Sloth
Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. at Creativita, 7512 Madison Street. Steve the Sloth is back in the studio! Join Creativita for this Valentine’s Day edition of painting with Steve, a fundraiser for the Flying Fox Conservatory Fund. 100 percent of all profit is donated directly to this outstanding nonprofit that supports Steve and furry friends just like him. Participants will paint on a stretched canvas that has an image of Steve predrawn on it. All paintings are yours to take home at the end of the event. While you paint, Steve and his human Scott will talk to you about sloths, and you will have the opportunity to meet Steve up close and personal!

Freeze Fest at the Park District
Beat the winter blues and meet up with friends at the park district, 7501 Harrison St., on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. Freeze Fest will be filled with snowman building and fun outdoor activities for the whole family to enjoy. Warm up at the hot cocoa bar or grab a bowl of chili while you catch up with friends and neighbors.
Daddy Daughter Dance
Reserve your spot now for the park district’s annual Daddy Daughter Dance on Friday, Feb. 7 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. This year’s theme is Hollywood Nights. Dads, grab your little sweetheart and get ready for a night full fun. If you’re between the ages of 4 and 12, ask your father, grandfather or uncle to accompany you on the red carpet. You’ll enjoy a delicious dinner, games and dancing to your favorite music. Make sure to dress for the occasion in your favorite red-carpet outfit. Each child will receive a special gift and all the adult/child couples will receive a photo to remember this special occasion. The cost is $36 per couple for residents, and $46 for non-residents. Free Super Bowl Party
Come on out to the American Legion, 500 Circle Ave., on Sunday, Feb. 2 for a Super Bowl party. Free admission and food! Enjoy the cash bar while watching the game. The party kicks off at 4:00 p.m., and the game starts at 5:30 p.m.
Art at Forest Park National Bank
Through the first week in March, view the charcoal drawings of Carol Freer Rao who creates art from everyday life, taking a moment in time and breaking it down into its simplest form, looking at things from different perspectives.
