Applications are now being accepted for 209 Together scholarships for Proviso Township high school graduates from all three schools, Proviso East, Proviso West and the Proviso Math and Science Academy (PMSA).
Three scholarships of up to $1,000 each will be awarded to graduates of each of the three schools, for a total of nine scholarships. There are two scholarship categories, and students can apply in one or both categories.
The first category is Overcoming Adversity, and is a scholarship awarded to students with a GPA of at least 2.0 who have demonstrated academic improvement over their time in high school. The purpose of this award, according to the application information, “is to support students who may not have the best academic record but have shown determination to succeed in a two- or four-year college.”
The second scholarship category, Persistence Pays, is open to students who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have “demonstrated consistent academic excellence throughout their high school career.” The scholarship committee looks at continued high achievement in high school, academically and in extracurricular, home or community activities.
Students who will be graduates of any of the three Proviso Township high schools by August 2020 are eligible. They must have either a GPA of at least 2.0 (Overcoming Adversity category) or 3.5 (Persistence Pays category). And they must be planning to attend any two or four-year accredited post-secondary education program including trade school.
The deadline for application is Thursday, April 9 to the student’s guidance counselor or by Friday, April 10 by email to email@example.com.
The 209 Together Scholarship Programs, Overcoming Adversity and Persistence Pays, were established in 2016 with support from the Kiwanis Club of Forest Park.
