Donald Stark has been a Forest Park resident for over 20 years. He served in the Reserves and believes that more residents should fly the American flag as a sign of community right now, when the country is suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I’d like to see more people flying the flag in Forest Park,” said Stark. “I just think there should be more flags out there.”
Stark said he’s seen people hang up inspiring signs in their windows, and he appreciates that, but flags are important too.
“It’s a good sign of unity,” said Stark.
He acknowledged that there are specific rules for flying the American flag, such as taking it down in certain weather conditions or keeping it lit at night.
“Although there are rules,” said Stark, “I strongly feel that during this time, our unity is something our forebearers would approve of.”
Official rules for flag flying can be found at usa.gov/flag. And flags for your house can be purchased locally at Schauer Hardware, 7449 Madison St.
