Forest Park’s annual and decades old All Schools Picnic would have been held on May 21. In recent years, the celebration has included a bouncy house, pony rides, rock-climbing, a hot dog lunch and, for middle school students, a dip in the pool.

This year’s picnic has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But District 91 and the park district weren’t about to let the day pass without doing something for the kids.

In a May 20 email to parents, Supt. Lou Cavallo said, “While the tradition of gathering together at the park isn’t possible this year, the Park District of Forest Park has prepared a treat for our students.”

“Picnic fun bags” will be given out to students during normal lunch distribution times between 11 a.m. and noon on May 21 at Garfield School on the north side and the Forest Park Middle School on the south side. The bags will include “fun activities and treats for the kids,” said Cavallo in his email.

They’ll be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.
