Walmart, 1300 Desplaines Ave., closed early on Sunday, June 7 due to potential looting. Portillo’s and Dollar Tree across Roosevelt Road were shut as well. By 4 p.m. all three stores were closed.

Living Fresh, 7520 Roosevelt Rd., closed shortly after and all entrances to the Forest Park Plaza and to Walmart were blocked by police or public works vehicles.

Forest Park Village Administrator Tim Gillian said the village had heard “rumblings” of potential looting. Gillian said the village was notifying all business on Roosevelt Road in Forest Park of the situation.

Mayor Rory Hoskins told the Review that at a peaceful protest in a nearby town, several participants were overheard discussing the Forest Park Walmart as a potential location for looting. Out of an abundance of caution Walmart made the decision to close.
