A woman waved down a squad car and then attacked the officer in an attempt to gain access to the vehicle on June 1 at 9:15 p.m. The officer was driving on the 7500 block of Roosevelt Road and stopped upon seeing a woman waving her hand for help. The woman spoke to the officer, saying she needed to get home but refused to say where she lived or exactly what kind of assistance she needed.

When the woman got close to the driver’s side window, the officer asked her to take a few steps back, which she did, but not immediately. She then stood in the middle of the street while cars drove by

The officer got out to assist the woman, who grabbed the officer’s arms, dragging the officer away from the vehicle, “attempting to gain access to it.”

When the woman approached the vehicle, the officer restrained her, but the woman kept fighting, “making continuous effort to gain access to the vehicle.”

The officer pushed her away and deployed a taser cartridge, firing darts at the offender. They struck the woman’s upper back and, because she was wearing two jackets, were only partially effective.

Two more officers arrived at the scene, and it took several moments, with the woman struggling and resisting, for them to successfully handcuff her. She was transported to the police department and charged with battery and resisting arrest.

Pot and edibles over legal limit confiscated

Large amounts of cannabis, above the legal limit, as well as TCH-infused edibles were found in a car pulled over for speeding on the 7500 block of Brown Avenue on June 4 at 2:07 a.m. Officers observed smoke and the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver, when asked, said there was no more marijuana in the car but verbally submitted to a search.

Under the driver’s seat, officers found an open bottle of Hennessy Very Special Cognac, and under the front passenger seat, an open bottle of brandy was discovered. In the back seat, an Avenger’s-themed backpack contained mason jars, one full of a green, leafy substance, suspected to be marijuana. The other jars contained suspected cannabis residue.

A small heat-sealed plastic bag also contained suspected pot. Inside the backpack was a digital scale and a large number of small clear zip-lock bags.

In the trunk, officers located a large tinfoil pan that contained a breakfast cereal mixture, which gave off a strong odor of marijuana. When asked, the driver of the vehicle said the mixture was topped with cannabis-infused butter. He denied selling cannabis or related products.

The driver was issued citations for possession above the legal limits. He was given a verbal warning for speeding. Officers reported he “was polite and respectful during the traffic stop.”

Butter pecan ice cream stolen

A man stole a container of Breyer’s butter pecan ice cream from Thornton’s, 601 Harlem Ave., on June 4 at 10:02 p.m. Before leaving on foot, he verbally harassed customers and demanded money from them. He then told the clerk, who recognized him from previous encounters, “I don’t give a f*ck. I’m taking this sh*t so you can call the police.”

These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, June 1-8, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
