A man was stopped on the 7400 block of Madison Street on July 24 at 12:54 a.m. with a clear plastic cup containing alcohol. The officer took the cup and placed it on his squad car, detecting the odor of alcohol in the drink. He asked the suspect if it was, indeed, alcohol. The suspect confirmed it was.

After checking the suspect’s ID, the officer poured out the drink and handed the cup back to the suspect, telling him to throw it away and that the officer would be giving him a break today.

The suspect refused to take the cup and said the officer owed him $5 for spilling out his drink.

The officer issued the man a local ordinance citation for open alcohol.

Man throws rocks at police car

A man was charged with criminal damage to property after throwing rocks at a police car on July 21 at 1:51 a.m. He’d been raising a ruckus in Oak Park, knocking over signs and construction cones and, according to the police report, being disorderly.

When he crossed over into Forest Park, police located him on the 7200 block of Circle Avenue and began to watch him to ensure he didn’t start causing trouble. The suspect told the officer he’d urinate on the squad car if the officer kept following him. He then picked up some rocks and threw them at the car.

The suspect fled to avoid arrest but was eventually caught and taken into custody.

Vehicles stolen

A car was stolen from the 1100 block of Lathrop Avenue on July 21 some time between midnight and 12:30 p.m. The owner had the only key. There is no record of the car being towed by any agency.

A car was reported stolen from a residential parking lot on the 7300 block of Circle Avenue on July 24. The car was taken some time between July 23 and 24, and the owner’s mother, who was using the car, was in possession of the keys. There is no record of the car being towed by any agency.

A car was taken from the 400 block of Marengo some time after midnight on July 23. The owners had the keys in their apartment. Contents from the car were strewn on the ground in the alley.

A Door Dash employee left his car running while delivering food on the 900 block of Marengo Avenue on July 23 at 7:07 p.m. After bringing food to a house, he turned back to where his car had been, but an unknown subject had gotten in and stolen the vehicle.

Suspected AR-15 sticking out of car window

An off-duty Chicago Police sergeant waved down a Forest Park police officer at Walgreen’s, 7200 Roosevelt Rd., on July 21 at 4:26 p.m. A car parked in front of Happy Chef at 1215 Harlem Ave. had what looked like an AR-15 pointed out of the window toward traffic.

Officers determined the car was not occupied and that the gun was actually a replica AR-15 with an attached air tank, presumably a paint ball gun.

A suspect was located, and although he first gave a fake name, he finally provided his real identity. He said he and some friends were driving and shooting paint balls at each other.

He was advised not to display any guns, paintball guns, or other weapons from his vehicle. He agreed not to engage in that type of behavior and was released from the scene.

Woman issued open container citation

A woman was given a citation for open alcohol outside a bar on the 7400 block of Madison Street on July 20 at 1:57 a.m. The officer who stopped her asked if her clear plastic cup contained alcohol. She said it was just juice. The officer said he didn’t appreciate her lying to him and asked the question again.

The woman removed her facemask and smelled her drink, then admitted that it was an alcoholic drink she’d purchased in the bar and wanted to finish.

Man arrested for aggravated assault with BB gun

On July 24 at 7:33 p.m., Forest Park police pulled over a vehicle at 7620 Madison St. driven by a man reported by WESCOM as having a gun, which he had pointed at someone in Oak Park. Oak Park police were currently looking for him.

Due to the nature of the call, the officer exited his vehicle, used the driver side car door as cover, drew his weapon, and began giving the driver verbal commands to put his hands outside the car window. The driver complied immediately.

When backup arrived, the officer made contact with the suspect, who said he had a BB gun in his vehicle between the driver seat and center console.

Officers confirmed the gun was a BB gun. It was given to Oak Park police, who took control of the scene. The man was arrested for aggravated assault by Oak Park police.

Face masks stolen from 7-Eleven

A man stole face masks from 7-Eleven, 205 Harlem Ave., on July 26 at 10:43 a.m. According to the manager, the perpetrator took a two-pack of masks, opened them, put one mask on his face and stuffed the other in his pocket before leaving without paying. The masks cost $5.99.

These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, July 20-24, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
