Forest Park’s Walmart, 1300 Desplaines Ave., is not closing Monday over unconfirmed threats of looting, but Forest Park’s village government will be blocking some of the entrances/exits with public works vehicles to allow better surveillance of who’s coming and going.

Forest Park officials including Village Administrator Tim Gillian, Director of Public Health and Safety Steve Glinke, and Public Works Director John Doss met with Walmart management on Aug. 10 at 1 p.m. to discuss whether the store should be closed after the North Riverside Park Mall and the Harlem Cermak Plaza shut down earlier in the day. Those shut downs followed widespread looting in downtown Chicago in the early morning hours.

“Out of an abundance of caution we decided to close off some of the entrances and exits,” Gillian said, adding that there was “no specific intelligence” that the Forest Park Walmart would be a target for looting.
