Police responded to a shots-fired call on the 7300 block of Roosevelt Road on Aug. 4 at 11:25 p.m. The victim reported she and her daughter were standing outside when two men approached them. One was carrying a rifle, which the woman described as an “AK-47.” She said the man pointed the gun at her and demanded her purse, which she gave to him. The second man, she said, was holding a black semi-automatic handgun with an extended clip.
The man with the AK-47 took her purse, set it down, then picked it up again before pulling the trigger of the rifle. The rifle, according to the woman, did not fire.
He dropped the purse once more and the second man picked it up. Before fleeing in a black sedan, the man with the rifle fired a round in the woman’s direction, but she was unhurt.
Car stolen from gas station
A car, left unlocked and running at a gas pump, was stolen from the BP gas station at 7204 Washington St. on Aug. 5 at 9:19 p.m.
Catalytic converter taken
A catalytic converter was stolen from a vehicle sometime after June 20, the last time the car on the 7200 block of Jackson Boulevard was used.
Man wields then yields knives at bar
Police were called to Short Stop Lounge, 7425 Madison St., where a drunk man with a knife was threatening people on Aug. 4 at 5:36 p.m. The reporting officer recognized the suspect “from numerous prior contacts” as someone who often carries multiple knives.
A bar employee said the suspect entered Short Stop and began trying to hug bar patrons. Nobody, however, wanted to be hugged, and the suspect was told to practice social distancing. When the suspect refused to comply, he was asked to leave the bar.
Instead, however, the suspect pulled out a knife, pointing it at the employee and threatening him. The suspect then pulled out a second knife, placed both knives on the top of a bar stool, stating he didn’t need the knives and left the bar.
Police arrived and took him into custody. The knives were processed as evidence.
Excessive noise citation issued
An excessive noise citation was issued to an apartment renter on the 1100 block of Dunlop Avenue on Aug. 3 at 3:24 a.m. when police were called by a neighbor. The neighbor complained that she could hear loud music, talking and laughing coming from the offender’s apartment.
Officers asked the renter to turn down the music and lower their voices. Although the music was quieter, the loud talking and laughing continued.
When the reporting officer handed a local ordinance citation to the offender, he “lifted his hands stating he didn’t want it.” He pointed to the floor next to the door, asking that the citation be placed on top of lined-up shoes. The officer complied. The offender will appear in court in September.
Graffiti on boarded-up house
An unknown offender wrote “WARDOG,” with an anarchist “A” on boards used to secure an abandoned house on the 7300 block of Harvard Street on Aug. 3.
Citation for open alcohol trashed
Two subjects were given citations for open alcohol on Aug. 8 at 12:19 a.m. on the 7600 block of Madison Street. Police officers observed the men holding clear plastic cups, suspected to be filled with alcohol. Although both subjects were initially argumentative, they acknowledged they were, in fact, consuming alcohol on the public way. The reporting officer gave both men citations, but they argued they should get a warning first. One of the subjects balled up his citation and threw it into a nearby trash can.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Aug. 3-8, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
