The Circle Avenue bridge over the Eisenhower Expressway will be “fully closed” sometime this week, according to a representative from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) on Aug. 31.

Village Administrator Tim Gillian said the closure includes not just vehicular traffic but also foot traffic and Circle Avenue access to the Blue Line.

“The project includes deck, structural steel and sidewalk repairs. We anticipate the work, weather permitting, will be completed in approximately four weeks,” said IDOT said in an email.

The bridge was closed briefly on Friday, Aug. 29, but reopened the same evening since work wasn’t scheduled to begin until this week.

A July 6 press release from IDOT states that the work is part of a multi-bridge project that includes five bridges over the I-290 Expressway, from 25th Avenue in Bellwood to Forest Park’s Circle Avenue bridge.

The village of Forest Park will update residents on the status on its Facebook page at facebook.com/Village-of-Forest-Park-111395240532257 and the village website at forestpark.net.

This story was updated to reflect the reopening of the bridge for the weekend and to include updates from IDOT and the village.
