Fire fighters from seven towns responded to a fire on the second floor of a two-flat at 1133 Elgin Ave. on Sept. 17 around 5:30 p.m.

Firefighters from Forest Park, Oak Park, River Forest, North Riverside, Maywood, Cicero and Berwyn arrived on the scene to battle the blaze.

According to Forest Park Chief Bob McDermott, nobody was hurt, and a fire investigation team will look into the cause of the fire.

Both families living in the two-flat were displaced by the fire.

Fundraisers to benefit the families have been set up. The Weber family, who own the house, plans to rebuild, according to the GoFundMe, but will need help. Donations can be made at gofundme.com/f/weber-family-fundraiser.

The Reyes-Bonney family resided in the second-floor apartment. Donations are being collected at gofundme.com/f/reyes-bonney-family. Vanessa Reyes is a former District 91 teacher and the daughter of Ruben Reyes, a long-time resident of Forest Park.
