COVID-19 and Voting

On Saturday, Oct. 17 from 1 to 3 p.m., the Village Free Press is hosting on online event to discuss voting and COVID-19. The event will take place via Zoom and will cover topics like getting registered, voting safely, voter suppression, misinformation, what’s at stake and more. Outdoor Charity Concert 

On Sunday, Oct. 18 from 3 to 8:30 p.m., come on out to Urban Pioneer Group for the B-Strong Charity Outdoor Concert, featuring three bands: Island of Misfit Toys (3 p.m.), Terry White and the Loaded Dice (5 p.m.) and The Bono Brothers (7 p.m.) Tickets are $50 and cover food, music and drinks. The New Future of Mental Health 

NAMI Illinois is holding its 2020 state conference virtually this year, on Oct. 16 and 17. The focus is on the dramatic increase in the need for services, as millions experience the challenges of anxiety and depression for the first time, and as the challenges facing those already living with mental health conditions are exacerbated.

Senior Essentials Giveaway 

The Ivy Foundation is hosting a give-away event for seniors, providing them with essential items on Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 902 Madison St. in Maywood. Please enter on Madison Street from the west. More information is available at ifivyfoundation.org.

Stand Tall with Sarah’s Inn 

Sarah’s Inn is holding Stand Tall, a premier event, extra special this year because it’s the organization’s 40th anniversary! Stand Tall provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase Sarah’s Inn’s important programming, raise funds to support vital programs, and cultivate relationships in the community.

Virtual Lego Master Challenge 

On Oct. 17 from 1 to 2 p.m., the Forest Park Public Library invites you to think fast while participating in fast timed challenges. There will be a prize awarded for each round. If you want to play but don’t have Legos at home, the library will donate some to you. Email ys@fppl to request a grab-bag of bricks for the challenge (and to keep afterward).

A Spooky Night In 

Pick up a kit from the library and enjoy a spooky night at home! The kit includes ingredients for a spiced pumpkin drink and spooky popcorn to enjoy while you watch a scary movie from the library’s curated list of recommendations.
