Mishawn Purnell-O’Neal, shown with her son, Makail (2) and husband, Markus, is a local nutritionist and was featured in the Hometown section of the 2001 Review. Mishawn had written a book, “Breastfeeding: Facts over Fiction, Health Implications on the African American Community,” and was a strong advocate for breastfeeding and early childhood nutrition. Her mission was to improve health and the mother-child connection and to reduce infant mortality in the African American community.
