The search for a new superintendent for D91 continues, with interviews scheduled for the first week in December.

At the Nov. 12 school board meeting, the superintendent search committee, consisting of board president Kyra Tyler and members Monique Cotton and Mary Win Connor, provided an update on the progress of the search.

School Exec Connect, the search committee hired by the board to assist in the process, worked with the board to create an online survey, which collected community responses to questions about what people wanted to see in a new superintendent. The purpose of the survey, said Tyler, was to “build a profile so we can make a decision that’s based on already-agreed upon metrics that we’re looking for.” The district received 195 completed surveys.

Two online forums to solicit discussion from the community, one in English and one in Spanish, were held on Nov. 11, although several community members complained that not enough notice was given and that the event was not well-publicized. Thirty attendees participated in the English language event and one in the Spanish language option.

According to Tyler, school community focus groups have been held as well; these groups included administrators, teachers and district staff.

In the first week of December, the board will interview the final five or six candidates and hope to narrow it down to an ultimate candidate by the first week of January.
